Celebrating Father's Day with The LeVar and Reading Is Fundamental
There's a particular kind of dad who reads to his kids. The one who does the voices. The one who keeps reading even after they've fallen asleep, because the ritual matters as much as the story. For a lot of us, that's our earliest memory of being loved — a parent, a book, and the quiet promise that the world is bigger than the room we're in.
This Father's Day, we wanted to celebrate that kind of father. And there's no one who embodies the gift of reading quite like LeVar Burton.
How The LeVar came to be
Our collaboration with LeVar didn't start in a boardroom. It started years ago, when our founder met him at an X Prize presentation. LeVar was the keynote speaker, talking about his lifelong mission to improve children's literacy, and the whole room was captivated. His passion was real, his intention was pure — and over the years that followed, a genuine friendship grew.
Then came a small, perfect surprise. LeVar revealed that he'd been wearing LA LOOP every single day — “every day for the last 20 years,” as he put it. “It's the perfect tool for the job. Function and fashion.” Two decades of quiet loyalty we never knew about, from a man who has spent his life championing the very thing LA LOOP was built around: showing up, every day, for the people and the work you love.
From that conversation, The LeVar was born — the LeVar Burton LA LOOP Signature Series. It only made sense to build something together that carried his name and his mission forward.
A piece made to last — and to give back
Like everything we make, The LeVar is handmade and built to be worn for a lifetime. Each piece is crafted from solid 925 Sterling Silver and stitched Italian leather sourced from our mill just outside Venice, Italy. At the center, the Sterling Silver loop is elegantly engraved with LeVar Burton's signature — a small, personal detail that turns an everyday essential into something meaningful.
But the part we're proudest of isn't on the loop. It's what The LeVar does after it leaves our hands.
100% to Reading Is Fundamental
Every cent of proceeds from The LeVar goes to Reading Is Fundamental, the nation's leading children's literacy nonprofit. Not a portion. Not “a percentage of profits.” One hundred percent.
And because we were so moved by LeVar's humanitarianism, we go a step further: for every LeVar purchased, we donate three books to a child in the RIF community. Three books, into three sets of small hands, sparked by one gift.
That's the math we love most. A father unwraps a beautiful, lasting piece he'll reach for every morning. Somewhere else, three kids get books of their own — and maybe a dad somewhere reads them aloud, doing the voices, keeping the ritual alive.
